COUNCIL WORKER GULPS POISON AS FAKE CERTIFICATES ARE EXPOSED

A MUTARE City Council staffer, who used fake certificates to secure employment at the local authority, consumed an unknown substance in an attempted suicide case as she failed to fathom the humiliation after the alleged fraudulent act was exposed. 

Miriam Saurombe works as a personnel officer in the Human Resources Department at Mutare City Council.

When contacted for comment, Mutare Mayor Councillor Tatenda Nhamarare referred the matter to the Chamber Secretary, Mr Cephas Vuta, who is the Acting Town Clerk. Mr Vuta could neither deny nor confirm the incident citing professional restrictions.

“It is not yet for public consumption. In any case, it is not proper for me to comment on the issue since I am only acting as Town Clerk. The Town Clerk is the one who can give a comprehensive comment when he returns,” he said.

Reliable sources privy to the goings on at the local authority revealed that Saurombe consumed poison after deciding she could not live with the humiliation. She was reportedly taken to a local private hospital last Wednesday before she was discharged last Friday.


“She attempted to cut her own life short after her certificates which had been taken to Harare for verification turned out to be fake. This did not go down well with her. She could not face the humiliation and consumed poison. She is lucky to be alive after she quickly got medical attention at a local private hospital.
