MAN SHOOTS SELF AT RAINBOW TOWERS

A HARARE man last Saturday committed suicide in his room at Rainbow Towers hotel using an illegally acquired gun that had an expired Firearm Certificate.

Kudzai Prince Machimbirike shot himself with a Bernadelli pistol belonging to Timothy Munetsi, 62, who is now facing charges of contravening the Firearms Act.
Munetsi, who resides at number 570 Adyline in Westgate was not asked to plead to two counts of contravening the Firearms Act when he appeared before Harare magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta.

Magistrate Sabarauta remanded Munetsi in custody and rolled over the matter to today as the State highlighted it was waiting for a ballistic report.

According to the State led by Francesca Mukumbiri, the accused was issued with a Firearm Certificate by the Controller of Firearms for his Bernadelli pistol for protection of cash in transit.

The State alleges that the certificate was valid up to December 1, 2014. The accused failed to renew his certificate.

Further allegations are that last Friday the accused unlawfully transferred his pistol to the now deceased who had not acquired a Firearm Certificate, authorising him to illegally possess a gun.

Mukumbiri alleged Munetsi had no right authorising him to transfer his firearm to Machimbirike without acquiring an authorising certificate.
