THE Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Zimbabwe (SCIAZ) is
displeased by MDC Alliance president Mr Nelson Chamisa’s decision to
seemingly side with Israel by proposing to establish a diplomatic
mission in the Middle Eastern country, which has always been locked in a
dispute with Palestine, especially after its establishment in 1948.
Mr Chamisa blindsided when he announced his party’s position during the launch of the MDC Alliance manifesto on Thursday last week.
“Mr (Douglas) Mwonzora says Zimbabwe is a Christian nation and has a lot to gain from Israel; for example, irrigation.
“Zimbabwe is not a Christian country; that is why there is freedom of worship.
“The opposition is misdirecting itself because the issue in Palestine has nothing to do with politics, has nothing to do with Christianity — its humanitarian,” said Sheikh Duwa.
“Yes, they might be getting assistance from them, but money is not important than human life,” he said.
Chairperson of the Palestine Solidarity of Zimbabwe, Mr Jabulani Chari, thanked the Government for ensuring that freedom of worship was respected.
“Zimbabwe is a multi-religious country . . . we always pray for freedom of worship here,” he said.
