SIX KILLED AS CAR IS SMASHED BY LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE

Six people have died in a road accident which occurred at the 16 kilometre peg along the Harare-Chinhoyi road near Conway College around 5am today.

The driver of an Isuzu KB vehicle was driving from Harare towards Chinhoyi with five passengers on board.

On approaching a railway crossing near Conway College, the driver failed to give way to a locomotive engine which was travelling south along the Bindura-Harare railway line resulting in a collision.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said as a result of the accident, the driver and his five passengers sustained multiple body injuries and died on the spot.

He said the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for post mortem and their names will be released after their next of kin have been informed.
Chief Superintendent Nyathi appealed to motorists to be on the lookout of hazards along the highways and should observe road rules and regulations to avoid accidents.
