HRE MAN KIDNAPPED OVER DEBT

A 55-year-old Harare man — Tapfumaneyi Ndori — has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly kidnapping 54-year-old Zondai Chiparawasha over an undisclosed debt.

Ndori yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Annie Ndiraya facing charges of kidnaping as defined in Section 93 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.

The trial did not take off after Ndori requested for postponement citing that his defence counsel was tied up in Bulawayo on other business.

It is the State’s case that on August 7, 2017 Ndori went to the Sunningdale home of Chiparawasha where he intentionally deprived the complainant of his bodily movement by dragging him into his motor vehicle, which had its engine running.

The court heard that Ndori, who was in the company of his wife and cousin, drove away at high speed with Chiparawasha to some open space in Hatfield, Harare.
Allegations are that he intended to cause such deprivation.

At the open space, Ndori is said to have assaulted Chiparawasha, demanding his money before other four accused individuals who are still at large arrived on the scene.
The court heard that Chiparawasha managed to flee into 14 Craneleigh Avenue Hatfield where he was pursued and further assaulted.

The accused persons are said to have threatened to shoot Chiparawasha with a firearm demanding Ndori’s money before driving him back to his residence where they ordered him to look for the money in two hours.

It was at this point that Zondai proceeded to report the matter to the police, leading to Ndori’s arrest. Daily News
