A tour of the designated points for commuter and vendors by the Minister of State for Harare, Cde Miriam Chikukwa and the Joint Operations Command (JOC) and officials from the Harare City Council has indicated that nothing is being done on the ground.
Ever since the launch of Operation Restore Order in Harare’s central business district where illegal vendors and commuter operators were being removed to designated points, the local authority has failed to complete the construction of the actual sites in time as agreed.
Minister Chikukwa expressed disappointment, noting that there is no progress on the ground.
A City of Harare official, Engineer Calvin Chigariro blamed contractors for the slow pace but however promised to complete all the construction in November.
The delays in the completion of the sites for vendors and commuter omnibuses have prompted the return of vendors and commuter omnibus in the CBD, nullifying efforts of the Operation Restore Order.
