A woman from Mberengwa who recently went berserk and scalded her
husband with boiling cooking oil following a misunderstanding over the
latter’s alleged infidelity has been slapped with a 36-month jail term.
Sophia Dube (21) of Matibiri Village under Chief Mapiravana in
Mberengwa was last week arraigned before Mberengwa magistrate Ms Evia
Matura for contravening Section 3 (1)(a) as read with Section 4 of the
Domestic Violence Act (Physical Abuse).
Dube was convicted on her own plea and was sentenced to 36 months in jail.
Agreed facts are that on Saturday last week Dube scalded her husband
Mr Emason Muserepi (26) of Matibiri Village with boiling cooking oil
following a misunderstanding over infidelity.
A heated argument ensued between the two resulting in Mr Muserepi retiring to bed early.
At around 3am, Dube woke up and boiled a pot full of cooking oil and proceeded to the two’s matrimonial bedroom where she poured the hot oil on her husband’s head and hand while he was sleeping.
Dube, the court heard, fled the scene and left her husband for dead. Mr Muserepi screamed for help and was rushed to Mberengwa District Hospital for treatment. He sustained severe burns on his face and hand as a result of the assault.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest. Ms Wadzanai Shayanowako appeared for the State. Sunday News
