The Zanu PF leadership across the country’s 10 provinces
has passed a resolution calling for the party to hold an extra ordinary
congress in December.
The Zanu PF Harare Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC)
has once again affirmed First Secretary and President Cde Robert Mugabe as the
ruling party’s candidate in next year’s elections.
The PCC also made a resolution to request the party to
consider amending the party’s constitution to allow the return of the women’s
quota in the party’s presidium.
The party’s PCC members met at the provincial headquarters
today afternoon, where the province’s chairman Cde Charles Tawengwa announced
that the province has once again agreed to affirm President Mugabe as the
presidential candidate next year.
The announcement was received with cheering.
The second resolution which also drew a huge applause
concerned the resolution to request the party to consider amending the
constitution to reinstate a provision that was scrapped off in 2014, that
stipulated that one of the party’s two vice presidents be a woman.
The PCC also unanimously agreed to support the call for the
party to hold an extra ordinary congress in December.
Cde Tawengwa briefed members on the biometric voter
registration exercise saying while the programme started on a slow note, it has
since gained momentum and people are coming in their numbers to register on the
new voter’s roll.
In the Midlands Province, the party’s provincial
spokesperson, Cde Cornelius Mupereri told ZBC News that as a province they have
passed a resolution calling on the party to hold an extra ordinary congress in
December.
He said the congress will reinforce the unity of purpose
and cohesion in the party ahead of the 2018 harmonised election.
The decision was made at the party’s convention centre in
Gweru.
Also, the Zanu PF leaders in Mashonaland Central Province
converged in Bindura today to formalise their request forwarded to Zanu PF
President and First Secretary Cde Robert Mugabe which called for a special
extra ordinary congress that will look at the current challenges bedevilling
the party to ensure that these are resolved.
At a meeting attended by Politburo and Central Committee
members, members of parliament from Mashonaland Province, the Women’s League,
war veterans and several party members and the Province Provincial Executive
Council (PEC) for Mashonaland Central presented their agreed position to the
National Political Commissar, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere.
Cde Kasukuwere welcomed the decision and noted that it sets
the tone to speak with one voice in the party.
He added that the party will not harbour divisive elements
who will destroy the party, further calling on party members to register under
the new biometric voter registration so as to ensure a resounding victory for
the party’s presidential candidate Cde Robert Mugabe.
In Masvingo, the party`s provincial political commissar,
Cde Jappy Jaboon said the meeting resolved that as a province they are
requesting the party’s national leadership to hold an extraordinary congress
before the elections.
Zanu PF Masvingo chairman, Cde Ezra Chadzamira reaffirmed
the province’s support for President Mugabe to be the party’s sole candidate
for 2018 general elections, sentiments that were also echoed by the party`s
provincial spokesperson Cde Ronald Ndaba.
The meeting was attended by the party’s provincial
leadership.
Elsewhere, Matabeleland North Zanu PF party’s provincial
secretary for administration, Cde Douglas Khoza read the proposal from the
Politburo to endorse the extra ordinary congress for December.
The matter was then seconded by provincial coordinating
committee members Cde Tshatha Mguni from Nkayi and Cde Rita Khuphe from Bubi
before the entire PCC also seconded it.
Provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo reaffirmed that
President Robert Mugabe who is the only centre of power, is the party’s
candidate for the 2018 harmonised elections.
“As a province we want to announce that we have unanimously
agreed that the President is our candidate for the 2018 harmonised elections,”
he said.
Matabeleland North Minister of State, Cde Thokozile
Mathuthu urged party members to remain united and work together as it prepares
for the 2018 harmonised elections.
Cde Mathuthu said; “I want to thank you for welcoming me
back to the province and i also must stress that i cannot do anything by myself
without your support. Therefore i would like to urge you to come together so
that we work as one family as we prepare for next year`s elections”.
The Mashonaland East Zanu PF leadership has also joined
other provinces in calling for the holding of an extraordinary session of
congress.
Speaking to ZBC News, the provincial secretary for
information and publicity, Cde Kenneth Mutiwekuziva said the congress is
necessary to reaffirm the candidature of the First Secretary and President of
the party, His Excellence Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe as the sole candidate for
Zanu PF in the coming 2018 presidential election among other issues.
Meanwhile, Zanu PF Manicaland Province today held a special
provincial coordinating committee meeting where calls were made to ensure Zanu
PF members register to vote for the 2018 elections.
The revolutionary party says it will leave no stone
unturned in ensuring that the party supporters are rallied together to achieve
total victory in next year’s elections.
Meanwhile, the Zanu PF Manicaland PEC also passed a resolution
that the proposed extra-ordinary session of congress be held in December this
year underscoring their commitment to the President as Zanu PF’s candidate in
the 2018 elections.
The Zanu PF Manicaland Province special provincial
coordinating committee meeting was attended by government officials as well as
traditional leaders in a bid to ensure the message of voter registration as
well as education reaches party supporters.
