The activists who were arrested yesterday have each been granted $100 bail. They are set to appear in court again on December 1.
The magistrate said the accused, including Advocate Fadzayi Mahere were not flight risks and therefore must be freed. The investigating officer had pushed for the activists to be locked up until Monday, claiming that his independent witnesses will only be available on Monday.
He said the activists were part of the Occupy Africa Unity Square and could interfere with the witnesses who were also part of that movement. The defence lawyer rubbished these claims and said there were no compelling reasons to deny them bail. The magistrate agreed.
