Former Zanu PF Manicaland women’s league chairperson, Joyline Chipo Porusingazi and her treasurer, Pedigree Matara who were on trial on 13 charges of theft of $37 466 have been acquitted.

Porusingazi, and Matara were alleged to have connived to raid the Zanu PF women’s league bank account 13 times in 2014.

However, last week Mutare magistrate Langton Mkwengi acquitted the duo after a full trial.
It was the State’s case that the two connived to steal cash which had been deposited for a dinner dance.

Signed withdrawal slips were brought to the court as part of the evidence. According to a provided schedule, Porusingazi made six withdrawals ranging between $2 000 ad $10 000 with Matara making seven withdrawals ranging between $440 and $3 000.

It was however, established during trial that the duo did not convert the money to personal use.
Malvern Musarurwa was prosecuting.
