A MAN from Lupane who raped his sister’s five-year-old daughter while the mother took a nap has been jailed for 15 years.

Hwange regional magistrate Mrs Dambudzo Malunga jailed Edmore Ndlovu (21) from Mathetheni Village in Lupane after he appeared before him facing one count of rape.
Agreed facts are that on August 25 at around 1PM, Ndlovu’s sister took a nap and her brother called the girl and raped her.

Ndlovu pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in jail. He will however, serve an effective 12 years after the magistrate suspended three years on condition of good behaviour.

The court had a torrid time dealing with Ndlovu’s case as he kept his eyes glued to the floor. He also spoke in a very low voice and the magistrate and prosecutor struggled to hear him. Asked why he committed the offence, Ndlovu didn’t answer but kept looking at the ground.

The girl is in an Early Childhood Development class at a local school. Prosecuting, Mr Bheki Tshabalala said the rape was only discovered by a relative who noticed a whitish discharge from the girl’s privates days later.

“On August 25 at 1PM, the girl was playing in the yard when the accused person called her into a bedroom hut seeing that her mother had dosed off,” said the prosecutor.

Mr Tshabalala said Ndlovu spread some blankets on the floor and ordered the little girl to lie facing upwards and then raped her once.

The girl didn’t tell anyone about the abuse until the discovery of the whitish substance from her privates.

She implicated her uncle leading to his arrest. The victim was referred to St Luke’s Hospital for treatment. herald
