A Kadoma housing project commissioned by First Lady Grace Mugabe last year is facing challenges as Zanu PF bigwigs wrangle over land ownership.

Two top Zanu PF officials in the town — Jimayi Muduvuri and Solomon Solomon — have been fighting over Pixy Combie Farm amid attempts by the latter to block the ambitious project, targeted at providing houses for homeless civil servants.

While Muduvuri told the Daily News that he applied for the land in question in 2014 and was given the green-light by the Local Government ministry, Solomon argued that “Muduvuri wanted to take my project and he has also elbowed out our party youths from a certain portion to make way for his project that was opened by the first lady”.

“I have the papers from the ministry and I have already started the project. It is amazing how someone stoops so low. The housing project was officially opened by the first lady and the country’s two deputy presidents (Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko) were there last year,” Muduvuri said.

“How does one wake up and then claim that I invaded the place when even the then minister of Local Government attended the ground-breaking ceremony,” he questioned.
Documents indicate that Muduvuri was given 100 hectares of land at the Pixy Combie farm in 2015 by the Local Government ministry.

Muduvuri also claims that the Kadoma municipality approved the housing project.
He said that had it not been for interference from his political rivals, the project would have been complete by now.

“We were allocated land last year... since then we have been going through the processes of registering with the relevant authorities and we have now fully complied with all the relevant authorities,” said Tapiwa Kanenga, the project manager.

A school is also being developed in the area along with other institutional facilities.
“We have completed servicing the roads and also the sewer system is now in place. We have so far constructed 10 two-roomed demonstration houses. We are looking at constructing 1 280 houses,” Kanenga said.

Muduvuri’s project is adjacent to Solomon’s, to which he is chairperson. daily news
