Some Zanu PF members are threatening a bhora musango if Energy Minister, Samuel Undenge's wife, imposes herself as the candidate for Chimanimani West.
Letina Undenge part of the G40 is said to be running the show in Manicaland and Team Lacoste members are threatening to decampaign her. She has cleared the first hurdle as she is part of the four Zanu PF candidates who have successfully been accepted by the Manicaland Provincial Elections Directorate and will battle for Chimanimani West primary elections.
The candidates are: Cde Tarsin Dube (Provincial Deputy Secretary for Administration), Cde John Gwitira (National Consultative Assembly member), Cde Nothuthula Matsikenyere (Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Provincial Women’s League) and Cde Letina Undenge (National Secretary for Administration in the Women’s league).
Zanu PF Manicaland Provincial Chairman, Dr Samuel Undenge, said the Chimanimani electorate is ready for the by-election, adding that the party will win resoundingly in the third provincial by-election, coming after Dangamvura-Chikanga and Headlands constituencies.
Dr Undenge noted that the Chimanimani West by-election presents the party with an opportunity to prepare for the 2018 general elections.
Zanu PF Politburo members, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and Cde Patrick Chinamasa implored the Zanu PF candidates battling in the primary elections to unite and work together instead of undermining one another.
The Chimanimani West seat fell vacant after the expulsion of the former legislator, Engineer Munacho Mutezo from the ruling party.
Another by-election is looming in the Chimanimani ward 8 to replace Joe Zviuya who was axed from the ruling party.
Six Zanu PF candidates successfully presented their papers and only one candidate was disqualified to stand in primary elections.
