Journalist and businessman, Supa Mandiwanzira and lawyer Psychology Maziwiza have been appointed to the new Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation board.
In a statement yesterday, Secretary for Mines and Mining Development Mr Prince Mupazviriho said lawyer Mr Godwills Masimirembwa was retained as ZMDC chairman.
The other ZMDC board members are deputy chair Mrs Florence Gowora, Mr Togarmah Dhlakama, Mr Ashton Ndlovu, geologist Mrs Ntombizodwa Masuku, Mr Mutabu Sibanda and administrator Mrs Esther Maravanyika.
Former Zimbabwean ambassador to China and Zanu PF political analyst Mr Christopher Mutsvangwa was appointed chairman for the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe.
Other MMCZ board members include Mrs Juliet Machoba (deputy chairperson), Mr Johnson Masawi, Mr Tendai Munyoro, Mrs Nonhlanhla Ndlovu, Mr Felix Moyo, economist Mr Nicholas Dube, Mr Tongai Muzenda and economist Mr Morris Mpofu.
Mr Mupazviriho said the two entities were key to the strategic development of the mining industry.
“The strategic nature of these two entities cannot be overemphasised. However, given the challenges emanating from the illegal sanctions imposed on these entities and their subsidiaries may I implore the newly-appointed boards to be creative and innovative to ensure the country continues to enjoy full benefits from its mineral wealth,” he said.
