The brother of flamboyant Zimbabwean prophet, Uebert Angel, Lee has been kicked out of Botswana for being a security threat.
A Botswana paper, The Monitor said Lee Angel who ran the Spirit Embassy in Botswana was sent packing last month. Botswana is getting tough on fake prophets and routinely chucks them out each time they are identified.
Spirit Embassy members alerted the authorities to Lee Angel’s extravagant lifestyle which they suspected was being funded by their offerings and tithes. The last straw for them was a demand by Lee for the Botswana church to contribute towards the purchasing of a Range Rover for his pretty wife.
Concerned members of Uebert's fast growing church reported his brother's extravagant habits to security forces, who, after interviewing a sizeable number of former and current members of the church, advised that Lee was a security threat.
Church members who alerted the security forces to Lee's bizarre materialistic inclinations say the pastor kept all the church's money at his plush Phakalane house, where he used the money at his discretion. The Monitor also can reveal that some church members there smelt a rat when the pastor ordered them to contribute P80,000 ($10,000) for the construction of chalets at the church's headquarters in Zimbabwe. According to the churchgoers this $10,000 is demanded from all Spirit Embassy churches.
The Spirit Embassy Church, which is also a hit on free-to-air television across Africa all thanks to free-to-air Chinese decoders, Philibao, has been attracting more of a crowd than a Splash concert at its premises at Limkwokwing University since it opened its doors.
The news of the deportation comes at a time when Prophet Uebert Angel himself is rolling into Botswana with his wife. Already church members are grumbling because they have to fork out P800 to attend a dinner hosted by the prophet and his wife, Beverly.
The expensive dinner is a prelude to Uebert Angel's forthcoming "Botswana Miracle Night," scheduled for Friday at the University of Botswana Stadium from 5pm.
